Northern Ore Haul Road Still A Possibility

AREVA Resources says it’s still considering whether or not to build a road from the uranium mine at McArthur River to a processing facility at McClean Lake.

The company began mulling the move after a flood delayed the opening of the Cigar Lake mine.

The mine is close to being dried out, but AREVA spokesman Alun Richards says a road would still make sense in the long-term — even though it would take several years to get the necessary regulatory approvals.

Crews with Saskatchewan Highways have done some preliminary surveys by air.

Ministry spokesman Dan Palmer says helicopters took to the sky last fall for planning purposes related to the necessary environmental considerations.

AREVA says it will have to look long and hard at financing issues and securing project partners before determining anything concrete.
