Northern Group Opposed To Proposed Ore Haul Route

Some concerns are beginning to surface over an idea by AREVA to establish an ore haul route between the McArthur River uranium mine and the processing facility at McClean Lake.

While the company says nothing has been decided yet, members of the Northern Saskatchewan Environmental Quality Committee say they are worried nonetheless.

Norman Wolverine says hauling slurry is more dangerous than yellowcake, and the trucks they would be using are generally bigger than normal.

He also worries about increased traffic on the Key Lake road.

Wolverine says he was at one consultation about the project, but the company representative didn’t say much about how the project would be carried out.

Wolverine says many communities will need to be consulted before the project can go ahead, as well as the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
