Regina’s mayor is taking the lead to host an Urban First Nations Summit this fall.

Mayor Pat Fiacco discussed the idea with the mayor of Edmonton during a recent conference in Ottawa.

Fiacco says they are looking for success stories, opportunities and challenges for the proposed two-day event.

“We’re just focusing on best practices, and then also looking at where the opportunity areas lie, within the challenges,” he says.

Fiacco says the event would be open to urban Aboriginal people from across the prairie provinces.

The mayor has also met with Treaty Four leaders and Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Guy Lonechild regarding the concept of a summit.
