A Stanley Mission man is facing a total of 12 charges following a standoff with police in the northern community earlier this week.
32-year-old Ernest Ballantyne is facing two counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of uttering threats, as well as a number of weapons-related charges — including one count of unlawfully pointing a firearm.
RCMP say they were called Monday morning with a report that a 23-year-old woman had been assaulted with a weapon inside a home in Stanley Mission.
Police say the woman and her two children left the residence a short time later, but a man remained in the residence with a firearm.
The Mounties say after several hours of unsuccessful attempts to contact the man from outside the home, they entered the residence and arrested the suspect.
Ballantyne made his first court appearance earlier this week in La Ronge, and will be back in court on Monday.
He remains in custody.
