La Ronge Family Gets A Break

A family in La Ronge has been presented with a new house.
The 2,000 sq. ft. home is two stories high and was constructed by inmates at the Riverbend Institution in Prince Albert.
It will go to Mathew and Marianne Charles of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
A total of 19 offenders worked on the project.
The Correctional Service’s Travis Boon says the whole idea is to get inmates to spend their time doing positive things and to help communities in the process.
He says the offenders really respond well to this concept.
“Absolutely it’s part of their giving back to the community. It’s something tangible they can see when they come to work in the morning. You know at the end of the day they see they finished the floor, they finished the walls, they finished the roof, they finished a house. And to know it’s going back to a community that’s similar to theirs it strengthens their desire to give back and make right any wrongs that may have been done.”
The house was unveiled at a ceremony in Prince Albert yesterday.
