James Smith Gets $2.3 Million Housing Boost

More houses are going up on the James Smith Cree Nation.
The band is receiving $2.3 million from the federal government as part of the country’s economic stimulus package.
Housing manager Martin Moostoos says the funding actually began last year, and 36 units are under construction or have been announced.
He says the structures are desperately needed as the First Nation has “basically had nothing to work with” for the last 10 years, noting the band just recently emerged from third party management.
Moostoos adds the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is also chipping in with the effort.
