There are various reports that the man who died at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary earlier this week was a noted gang leader.
Both the Canadian Press and Regina Leader-Post say Daniel Richard Wolfe was the person who died in a fight involving as many as 10 inmates.
One of the founders of the Indian Posse Street Gang, Wolfe was convicted of shooting and killing two men in Fort Qu’Appelle in September of 2007.
So far, officials with the Saskatchewan Penitentiary are refusing to confirm the name of the deceased, saying only that the victim’s family has been contacted.
Spokesman Darcy Begrand adds the maximum security unit is still under lockdown and a full internal investigation is pending, which could result in some changes at the institution.
The RCMP say they expect charges could be laid as early as today.
