Idea To ID Aboriginal Crime Victims Abandoned

The province’s justice minister says a plan to have police officers ask victims of crime whether or not they are of Aboriginal ancestry has been scrapped.
Don Morgan says he was never a fan of the idea, which was pitched by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics.
The idea behind the pilot project was to gain more knowledge about victims of crime and how the system might better help them.
However, Morgan says his main concern with the plan was that victims of crime could feel further victimized by the questions themselves.
He considers the matter a closed issue.
