An NDP Member of Parliament has appealed directly to the Prime Minister to save the Aboriginal Healing Foundation.

Funding for the foundation and its numerous projects will not be renewed at the end of this month when it runs out.

Niki Ashton says the AHF’s work is part of the same vision of healing and reconciliation that was central to the federal government’s apology to residential school survivors two years ago.

Ashton says Stephen Harper’s response to her appeal in the House of Commons yesterday wasn’t clear, and she believes it’s a sign that the government knows it needs to support survivors.

Ashton is urging all Canadians to pressure the government to save the foundation.
