Grandmother’s Bay is home to this year’s winner of the King Trapper competition at the Prince Albert Winter Festival.
Over the weekend, Gerald McKenzie captured the crown with a final tally of 53 points.
That was good enough to edge out Manitoba champion John Hendrickson, who finished with 45 points.
Norman McKenzie of La Ronge was third with 38 points.
Gerald McKenzie says he bloodied up his hand in the cross-cut event and also had to compete with a sprained ankle, but he says his experience helped him dig out the win.
Longtime champion Franklin Carriere of La Ronge finished in fourth spot, beating out a handful of other competitors.
The King Trapper event involves 16 activities, including the axe throw, animal call, log saw and tea boil.
