The former chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations has moved on to a new political landscape.

Lawrence Joseph officially announced this morning that he will be looking to become the federal NDP candidate in the northern Saskatchewan riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Joseph says he chose to run with the New Democrats because of the relationship he built with them while in his previous position with the FSIN.

He says the party also has a reputation of not being afraid to speak out in the House of Commons, and he likes that style.

Joseph also says that while he will continue to fight for First Nations and Metis, the experience he had as a city councillor in Prince Albert showed he can represent people of all backgrounds.

He adds that he plans to not only become the NDP candidate, but also unseat the current Conservative MP in the riding, Rob Clarke.
