Fond Du Lac RCMP To Crack Down On Road Rules

RCMP in Fond du Lac are seeking the public’s help in reducing motor vehicle crashes.

Effective immediately, officers will be issuing friendly reminders to motorists and snowmobile riders about the rules of the road.

The move comes in the wake of an accident over the weekend that left one rider injured after his sled crashed into a truck.

The man was airlifted to hospital, and is expected to recover.

However, RCMP constable Jeff Smoliak say that after consulting with the community, the detachment wants to make sure no similar accidents occur in the future.

“We’re hoping to warn the community, prior to enforcement action. There will be a two-week grace period; however, mainly it will be left up to (RCMP) member discretion whether they issue traffic tickets or not,” Smoliak says.

Some of the areas the campaign is expected to focus on include speeding, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving without due care and attention, and not wearing a seatbelt.
