A new video has been released that illustrates how Saskatchewan’s Treaty Land Entitlement process was created.

The 20-minute film was shot by Blue Hill Productions, a company headed up by respected journalist Doug Cuthand.

The video was commissioned by the Office of the Treaty Commission.

Commissioner Bill McKnight says he hopes it gives people a better understanding of why the T.L.E. process is so important.

He says it was created because of the Crown’s failure to give First Nations the land owed to them under treaty, but adds T.L.E. has begun to address some of that shortfall.

He says they have already given the film to some First Nations and are trying to get it into schools, as well.

McKnight notes it has been 20 years since T.L.E. was created, and that is something worth celebrating.
