The English River First Nation is looking to expand its borders.

The band is working with Indian Affairs to construct a bridge north of the community, across the Churchill River.

The $4- to $5-million project will begin once final approval has been given and tenders sent out.

English River Chief Ralph Paul says the band is bursting at the seams right now, and needs the room to build more houses.

“There’s hardly any room left for any more buildings, because our land is rocky and muskeg, so the space is very limited. So we have to go across the river and to see if we can develop that area,” Paul says.

He adds that survey crews have already begun to scour the area.
