Efforts Underway To Create P.A. Overnight Shelter

An outreach worker in Prince Albert says fall is likely the earliest time a new shelter for homeless people could be set up in the city.
Connie Farber of the Prince Albert Indian Metis Friendship Centre says efforts had been underway to get something set up for the spring, but the interested community groups have run out of time.
Farber says there is currently only a transitional shelter to look after the many residents who don’t have a regular place to sleep at night.
She notes there are many cities in the country with overnight shelters, but Prince Albert isn’t one of them.
Farber adds some people even wind up in jail because they have no place else to go.
