BTC Ordered To Provide Documents In Lodge Dispute

Two tribal councils in the Battlefords are continuing to fight in court over shares in the Gold Eagle Lodge.

Years ago, former Moosomin Chief Mike Kahpeaysewat signed some documents that said if the band left the Battlefords Tribal Council, it could lose its shares in the lodge.

A few years ago, the Moosomin band did leave the BTC to become part of the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs.

The band, with help from the BATC, is now fighting the BTC over those shares.

It says the former chief didn’t consult with the band or council before signing those papers, and therefore, Moosomin’s portion of the shares should still belong to the band.

An appeal court has ordered the BTC to provide financial information regarding the lodge by March 31st.

BATC officials say that’s good news, adding it means the BTC can’t drag the matter out.

A BTC spokesperson says it’s no big deal — the tribal council has just been given a date to file financial papers.
