The Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs are one step closer to getting the 2012 First Nations Winter Games.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ Sport, Culture and Recreation Board has recommended awarding the Games to the BATC.
But FSIN spokesman Mel Mercredi says that’s just one step in the process.
The recommendation now goes before the FSIN’s Education and Training Commission, and then on to the Indian Government Commission, before heading to an FSIN legislative assembly for approval.
Organizers are hopeful the recommendation will go before the FSIN’s winter legislative assembly on Feb. 3 and 4, but Mercredi admits that might be a short timeline.
The Battlefords and Saskatoon are both bidding for the games.
A three-member team toured both communities last Tuesday and Wednesday.
