The Regina Court of Appeal has set a date to hear the case of April Halkett.

Last year, a judge found the northern woman not guilty on a charge of child abandonment after she gave birth in a public washroom stall in the Prince Albert Walmart store, and then left the newborn in the toilet.

However, the Crown was not happy with the verdict in the so-called “Walmart baby” case, and launched an appeal.

The appeal is scheduled to be heard at 10 a.m. on Feb. 9.

A clerk at the Court of Appeal says the case could be adjourned, though, as both sides are still working through the recent death of the lawyer who defended Halkett in her trial.
