After considerable delays and debate by the judge, prosecution and defence, it’s been decided a trial for a 17-year-old boy from Fond du Lac charged with second-degree murder will be held in Stony Rapids in November.

The judge and jury trial has been tentatively set for November 14th and 15th.

The presiding judge wanted to hold the trial for the youth in Fond du Lac as opposed to La Ronge, but because of a lack of adequate facilities to host the proceedings, Stony Rapids was the next available choice.

The judge wanted the trial held closer to Fond du Lac, so that community members and the victim’s family could attend the hearing.

On July 22nd, the Fond du Lac RCMP responded to an altercation which led to the discovery of the body of a 15-year-old male from the community.

A court-imposed publication ban over the evidence in the case prevents the release of details surrounding the death.
