A youth from Grandmother’s Bay has been committed to stand trial on a charge of manslaughter.

The teenage boy had originally been charged with second-degree murder, but that charge was reduced following his preliminary hearing yesterday in La Ronge.

He was charged following the stabbing death of 24-year-old Michael C. Ballantyne last summer, which occured in broad daylight in Grandmother’s Bay.

Two other teenagers that had been charged with second degree murder in the case have also seen their charges reduced in recent months.

Those suspects have been committed to stand trial on charges of assault.

All three teens will be tried by judge and jury in Court of Queen’s Bench.
