The mayor of Sandy Bay says a lot of good progress was made at a series of emergency meetings her community held this week.

Ina Fietz-Ray also wants to thank outside agencies for their support in helping residents deal with the recent rash of suicides there.

She says community members held detailed talks about ways of increasing activities for youth so that they can grow physically, intellectually and emotionally.

Youth representatives addressed government leaders about their ideas at a meeting Wednesday afternoon, during which they also asked for government help in building a youth centre.

Fietz-Ray says a youth centre could be built in a similar fashion to the log facility in Montreal Lake.

She notes the village is planning to talk more with federal and provincial representatives about ways of funding the initiative.
