The 2009 Northern Spirits Showcase is being held in Prince Albert Saturiday night.

Twenty-five of the top young musicians and artists throughout northern Saskatchewan will perform at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts.

The event is intended to help cultivate the talents of youth aged 12 to 18.

The participants were selected after taking part in a workshop earlier this summer.

Twelve-year-old Aileen Searson will be the evening’s master of ceremonies.

Searson says it was a chance encounter that led her to take part in the showcase.

“Actually, I was just on my way to school when I heard a radio announcement about a workshop for kids that were 12 years old and older, and I decided to come. I hadn’t heard about it before, so this is my first year,” she says.

Meantime, event producer Justine Roy says there will be music for everyone to enjoy — mostly rock, but also some country and powwow.

The showcase begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are still available.
