The 5th Annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards takes place this evening in Toronto.

Saskatchewan artists are strongly represented at this year’s event, with 9 musicians receiving 11 nominations in 8 categories.

Country-rock singer Chester Knight and jazz singer Andrea Menard lead the way with two nominations each.

Other Saskatchewan artists to be nominated include last year’s Canadian Aboriginal Music Award-winning drum group Little Island Cree and the internationally-renowned Whitefish Juniors drumming group.

Also at this evening’s event, Saskatchewan-born entertainer Winston Wuttunee will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Wuttunee has firmly established himself as a musician, comedian, children’s entertainer, master of ceremonies and actor over his 30-year career.
