Workshop Held To Address Water Crisis On Reserves

A Senior Utilities Trainer with the Prince Albert Grand Council says he’s glad the Federal Government is looking at establishing regulations for drinking water on First Nation reserves.

Bill Adams was one of several dozen people who attended a two-day hearing on the issue this week in Saskatoon.

Adams says creating bench-marks in how water is maintained and measured would give Water Operators goals to reach for.

However, he stresses it doesn’t matter how the regulations are enforced, as long as First Nations agree to the measure.

Adams says northern Saskatchewan is well-serviced by the current water-systems it has in place, but national standards would make them even more effective.
