The Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Mining Industry says looming labor shortages could await companies in Northern Saskatchewan.

Phil Reeves says a large number of retirements are expected over the next 5 to 10 years and another industry is luring some workers away. He says the glamour of the Alberta Oilsands seems to be enticing young workers away from the North.

Reeves says some of the jobs that employers worry about include Heavy Equipment Operators, Electricians, and Instrument Technicians.

He says training methods may have to be adjusted so more workers can come on board.
