The mayor of La Loche says she’s pleased to see work begin on the Saskatchewan portion of the connector road to Fort McMurray.

The provincial government has officially begun the $4.2 million project, which will eventually connect northwest Saskatchewan to the Alberta oilpatch.

Georgina Jolibois says the road will bring a lot of investment to her community — and that’s why village council is beginning to target some of the improvements they want to see happen, including a bank.

Jolibois says they also plan to involve the youth in the process.

She says the construction is expected to take about four months to complete.
