Work On Wollaston All-Weather Road To Begin Soon

Work on a badly needed all-weather road to Wollaston Lake will begin later this month.

The Saskatchewan Party government says it has awarded a $700,000 contract to Points Athabasca Contracting to begin clearing the first 35 kilometres.

The 102-kilometre road will eventually cut through dense bush and muskeg east of Highway 905 — providing residents of Wollaston Lake with year-round road access to the rest of the province.

Highways Minister Wayne Elhard says proposals for similar roads to Fond du Lac and Stony Rapids are still being evaluated by the new government — and will have to compete with road projects in the south.

Elhard also says the provincial government’s actions on this file likely won’t be determined by whether Ottawa contributes to the project.

The road to Wollaston Lake is expected to be ready by 2012.
