A small northern Saskatchewan community near the Manitoba border will soon be the home of a unique drug and alcohol treatment centre.

Construction on a two-level residential facility in Denare Beach was finished earlier this month — and it’s expected to start accepting men with addictions in January.

Missionary Allen Lagore is helping spearhead the Teen Challenge project in Denare Beach.

According to Lagore, Teen Challenge is the world’s largest and most successful addictions treatment program — with a documented 80 per cent success rate.

Lagore believes the program’s success is due mainly to an approach based on Christian principles.

When it’s operational, the centre will have a staff of three people, and be able to accommodate four clients at a time.

Lagore says client referrals will originate from other addictions centres, the justice system and pastors.
