The lawyer for a Stony Rapids woman who was injured while in custody says his client has settled her case against the RCMP out of court.

Jack Hillson won’t reveal the amount of money Angeline Macdonald is getting, but does say this ends her litigation against the force.

Back in June, Macdonald spent two weeks in a Saskatoon hospital with a broken leg.

She alleges she was kicked by an officer while being taken to cells, and then made to lie on the floor for hours before getting any medical attention.

Hillson says Macdonald still suffers from the injury, and continues to receive treatment.

“She’s out of the hospital. She does require physio, which has meant she’s had to relocate to Saskatoon, because the facilities simply aren’t available in Stony Rapids for her continuing treatment,” he says.

Meantime, Sgt. Carole Raymond of the RCMP says the force recognizes mistakes were made.

“The settlement was for this time where she wasn’t taken to medical treatment, and that could have been done a lot sooner than it was. And all we can say is it was a very busy night for our members, but we regret that it did take as long as it did. We didn’t realize she was injured, and it’s very unfortunate,” Raymond says.

She says a review of the case is still underway.
