A 44-year-old woman was shot and killed by a Prince Albert police officer yesterday after a confrontation in the West Flat.

Officers were dispatched to a home at around 4:45 yesterday afternoon in response to a 9-1-1 call.

When they got there, the homeowner asked them to evict the woman from the residence.

Police say that it was at that point, while still inside the home, the woman confronted the officers with a knife.

The woman was then fired upon by one of the officers.

She was transported to the Victoria Hospital, where she later died.

The victim’s name has not been released.

S. Sgt. Bill Chow says a senior officer from the Saskatoon Police Service is now in the city to provide oversight into the matter.

He adds a complete review could take some time.

Prince Albert Mayor Jim Scarrow, the head of the city’s police commission, says he can’t comment on the incident.

He notes the commission is a separate entity from the police department, and the investigation is the department’s to carry out.
