Wild Rice Growers Hold Annual Conference

Wild rice harvesters from across the North are meeting in La Ronge today.

The growers are talking about challenges facing their industry including new regulations, equipment challenges and marketing techniques.

The harvesters have experienced very poor harvests the last two years because of less than ideal growing conditions.

Gerry Ivanochko of Saskatchewan Agriculture says 2006 could see another challenging season for northern harvesters due to high water levels, but he notes a quick break-up on norhtern lakes is helping to alleviate the situation.

The 20th Annual Wild Rice Conference is being held at the La Ronge Motor Hotel.
