West Side Forestry Company About To Secure Licence

The president of North West Communities Wood Products says a timber supply licence should be in the company’s hands within a few weeks.

The firm has been working to acquire the licence for the Besnard timber block in northwest Saskatchewan once controlled by Weyerhaeuser.

The licence expired in March of this year.

Alex Maurice says negotiations have gone well with the various stakeholders, and government officials are indicating an agreement is pending.

Maurice says a meeting will be called involving the seven communities that have a stake in NWCWP when the company has a signed contract.

However, his group won’t be harvesting timber in the near future.

Rather, he says NWCWP will talk with other groups about plans for when the forest industry rebounds.
