Weather Hurting Northern Wild Rice And Berry Crops

The late spring and cold summer has made a significant impact on traditional crops in northern Saskatchewan.
Agrologist Gerry Ivanochko says both the berry and wild rice crops look to be well down this year due to high water levels and sub-standard temperatures.
Ivanochko says even if dry, scorching temperatures arrive over the next few weeks, it likely wouldn’t improve the situation for the rice.
He says the situation looks better for wild mushrooms, which are thriving in the damp conditions — especially chanterelles.
