Water Bombers Used To Put Out Fire Started By Kids

There were some tense moments earlier today in a residential area in the north end of La Ronge.

Water bombers were needed to douse a fire that had started in some nearby trees.

Authoritities suspect it was caused by some kids playing with matches.

The neighbourhood was the same one threatened by the Mallard fire in 1999.

Saskatchewan Environment spokesperson Janette Krayetski says the department can’t afford to divert that kind of equipment from actively burning fires that are threatening communities north of La Ronge.

She’s also urging people not to start campfires or other recreational fires unless it’s absolutely necessary.

The RCMP is trying to track down those responsible for this afternoon’s fire.
