Four of the province’s water-bombers will be getting a facelift.

Beginning in 2008, Saskatchewan Environment will start equipping the amphibious planes with turbine engines.

Executive Officer for the department, Steve Roberts, says the move will improve the performance of the aircraft while reducing maintenance costs.

He says the total cost for the project is $50 million, which is part of the $93 million previously earmarked from Saskatchewan Environment.

Roberts says the work will begin in 2008 with one plane a year being converted.
