Delbert Wapass is the new Second Vice-Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

He was elected to the position on the second ballot late yesterday afternoon in a vote held at the FSIN assembly in Saskatoon.

Wapass received 434 votes, while runner-up Bernard Shepherd got 316.

Wapass assured the delegates that he is confidant, not arrogant, and that he gains confidence from the chiefs believing in him and the rest of the executive.

According to Wapass, leaders should seek direction from candidates who do not win because they still have good advice to give.

He says he is a team player, and plans to get advice regularly from Shepherd and the other candidate in yesterday’s election, Ted Quewezance.
