The Wanuskewin Heritage Park got a boost today from the federal government.

Heritage Minister James Moore was on hand to announce more than $2-million that will help the park finish renovations that are underway.

The park has experienced some turmoil in the past when it fired its former CEO and then ran out of money for work, resulting in the construction company walking out.

The new CEO, Dana Soonias, says getting this money is huge because without it, Wanuskewin wouldn’t be opening its doors.

Soonias began his new job last week.

Originally from the Red Pheasant First Nation, Soonias is the first Aboriginal CEO in the park’s history.
