The chief of the Beardy’s/Okemasis First Nation says he’s encouraged by a talk he had yesterday with Saskatchewan Party Leader Brad Wall.

Rick Gamble and Wall spoke about several issues during a visit by the Saskatchewan Party leader to the reserve.

Gamble says he’s pleased to see Wall visit his people in person.

He adds the invitation is there for other parties — but he doesn’t want to hear campaign promises.

Instead, he likes the approach Wall has taken. Gamble says Wall spelled out a “forward-looking plan” that he believes will result in meaningful participation for First Nations.

Wall says, among other issues, he and Gamble discussed the government’s duty to consult First Nations whose traditional territory is being developed.

Wall says admits the NDP seem to have a grasp on how the rule should be interpreted, but he maintains they are not doing enough to see it through.
