Voting In Cumberland By-Election Underway

Voters in the province’s Cumberland constituency will be choosing a new MLA today.

Today’s by-election was made necessary when former NDP MLA Joan Beatty resigned in January to pursue federal politics.

This time around, the NDP is being represented by Doyle Vermette of La Ronge.

Dale McAuley of Cumberland House is the governing Saskatchewan Party’s candidate, while the Green Party of Saskatchewan is being represented by Regina’s Tory McGregor.

The riding in northeast Saskatchewan has been an NDP stronghold for the better part of four decades.

Unofficial results will begin to trickle in shortly after polls close at 8:00 tonight.
