The RCMP is reporting no incidences of looting in Cumberland House following the recent evacuation in the face of flooding.
Constable Wayne Stevenson of the Cumberland House detachment says a voluntary security force performed around-the-clock patrols during the 20-day evacuation.
At one point, over 1,300 of the community’s 1,500 residents were evacuated.
Stevenson admits being surprised that the patrols worked so well, adding there is normally some looting reported during an evacuation of this scale.
Stevenson says between 30 and 40 volunteers watched homes and were stationed at the community’s entrance.
