Those who have lost their lives due to the sex trade will be honoured this evening in Saskatoon.

The 10th Annual Day of Mourning will be marked by a march, a balloon release and a candlelight vigil this evening.

Don Meikle works with the youth who plan the event every year.

He says over the past 10 years, 71 youth have died in Saskatoon because of the sex trade — whether it’s through murder, suicide, overdose or disease.

Meikle hopes more and more people continue to attend these vigils and create awareness that children do die from being involved in the sex trade.

However, Meikle is grateful there are some success stories of youth who do get out of the sex trade.

Two young people who help organize the annual event wrote a song for this year’s edition, which they will be performing tonight.

One of them lost a sister to the sex trade.

The event begins at 6:30 tonight at the Pleasant Hill Park.
