The spring session of the FSIN Legislative Assembly began today at Dakota Dunes casino, and the vice-chief responsible for health and social development already has two resolutions in mind.

Vice-Chief Glen Pratt wants the chiefs to endorse him going to the Children’s Advocate to call for a report on the foster care system province-wide.

Pratt says the stories in the recent report were tragic, and he believes they are symptomatic of a province-wide problem.

Pratt is also going to ask the chiefs adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Child.

He says if the chiefs adopt it, he will be given the mandate to lobby government to ensure the rights of First Nations children are protected within their policies.
