Saskatchewan is mourning the death of a well-known Aboriginal Veteran today.

George Horse, who has fought in several wars, passed away peacefully in his home on the Thunderchild First Nation last night, at the age of 87.

Thunderchild Band Councilor and Daughter-in-law, Ira Horse, says the entire aboriginal community is mourning his death, which comes almost one year after the death of his great-grandson, US Marine Robert McCoy-Awasis in a bombing in Iraq.

Horse says he was an inspiration to many, even into his final hours, which he spent surrounded by family.

Wake services for Veteran George Horse will begin this evening on the Thunderchild First Nation. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at the school gymnasium.
