A respected program developer for the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations died from cancer on Sunday.

John Ursan was a psychologist whose work helped develop the FSIN.

FSIN Chief Lawrence Joseph says Ursan made a positive impact on the Aboriginal community.

“We honoured him publicly, and that doesn’t happen in Indian country very often, that you’ve earned your feathers. That speaks highly of a non-First Nations person who was actually very dedicated in terms of making a commitment to actually help First Nations in the formation of governance structures and what is now known as the FSIN,” Joseph says.

The funeral took place this morning at St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Regina.

Ursan was 82.
