Two northern mines performed well at this year’s mine rescue competition this past weekend in Regina.
Areva’s McClean Lake was the surface runner-up in first aid and the surface winner in proficiency, while Cameco’s McArthur River was the underground runner-up in proficiency as well as underground mine problem.
Saskatchewan Mining Association’s Executive Director Pamela Schwann says the McArthur team’s win is significant. That category simulates what an actual underground mine rescue would look like.
Potash Corp’s Patience Lake was the overall surface winner, and Mosaic’s Esterhazy K2 was the overall underground winner.
