The Saskatchewan wing of the United Church of Canada says the federal and provincial governments should act on the duty to consult process.

The resolution was passed during a meeting of 350 United Church delegates in North Battleford on the weekend.

It says senior governments should negotiate an agreement with Aboriginal people to share renewable and non-renewable resources.

Reverend Ian Casper of the Battlefords spoke in favour of the resolution.

Casper says all that’s happened so far is a lot of talk about the duty to consult. He wants to see some action so that Aboriginal people can share resource wealth and improve their lives.

Casper says Aboriginal people need a source of wealth in order to make a better life for themselves.
