Two northern athletes will be heading to McGill University this weekend to attend a high-performance camp for aboriginal teens.

Event coordinator Waneek Horn-Miller says Keewatin Trottier and Damien Morin, both members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, were selected for their outstanding athleticism in northern physical activities and will be 2 of 24 aboriginal athletes attending this program.

Horn-Miller says the purpose of this camp is to expose aboriginal athletes to the high performance lifestyle and to introduce them to university athletics and academics.

Horn-Miller says often in aboriginal communities, First Nations and Métis athletes only focus on NHL and Olympic athletic careers and neglect to see the benefit of playing a high-level university sport, which could lead to an Olympic career.

Horn-Miller says anyone wanting to get more information on this program can log onto the McGill University website.
