The chief of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council has one challenger in her bid for re-election.

The only people to let their names stand by yesterday’s deadline were incumbent Helen Ben and challenger Robert Merasty of the Flying Dust First Nation.

Ben has been the tribal chief in Meadow Lake ever since she won a by-election this past January.

The by-election was called when former MLTC chief Richard Gladue stepped down to take a position with the provincial government.

The MLTC chief election is slated to happen on November 8th.

The victor will serve a four-year term in office.
