An internationally-known sex educator is in La Ronge this week to participate in an HIV/AIDS and sexual health conference.
Sue Johansson, the host of TV’s Sunday Night Sex Show, is the keynote speaker at this week’s conference, which is being held at the Kikinahk Friendship Center.
The sexual health nurse says her discussions today will help debunk myths about HIV and AIDS.
Johansson says today’s HIV/AIDS talk will be an important discussion because many people still don’t realize that anyone can be afflicted by the ailments if they’re not careful.
The Order of Canada recipient says her presentation today will not only focus on the youth in the community, but their parents, as well. She says parents really need to get involved in their children’s sex education, to complement what’s already provided in the schools.
Johansson says it’s particularly important for youth who move from remote communities to urban settings, because they very often aren’t aware of the sex-related pitfalls that are more commonly seen in cities.
The conference is slated to wrap up tomorrow afternoon.
