The File Hills Tribal Council has established its own new police service.

The body is said to be Saskatchewan’s first self-administered police agency.

Justice Minister Frank Quennell attended a signing ceremony today at the Okanese First Nation.

The budget for the service will be cost-shared between Ottawa and the province, and is expected to be about $970,000.

The new service will have a total of seven officers.

They will help patrol the reserves of Little Black Bear, Okanese, Peepeekisis, Starblanket and Carry the Kettle.
